Fiona de Vries, Fiona Hunter, Tracy Laughland and Karen Marshall did exceptionally well to qualify for the main championship, while Kirsten Blackwood, Ruth Brown and Noreen Fenton all qualified for the Clark Rosebowl. Many congratulations to Fiona de Vries on reach the quarter finals. Fiona Hunter drew Heather Stirling in the first round and put up a very creditable performance before losing 5 & 4. Heather, of course, went on to become the new Scottish Champion. Tracy Laughland proceeded to the second round before losing on the last green to last years champion, Linzi Morton, while Karen Marshall lost to Clare Hargan in the first round. Commiserations to Noreen Fenton who only just failed to follow in the footsteps of Belinda Murphy. Noreen lost in the final of the Clark Rosebowl, but not before fighting back from 3 down to lose on the 20th to Jo Carthew of Ladybank. JUNIOR GIRLS The Junior Girls Sections continues to grow in strength. This year we have over 65 members. Dorothy Fraser continues to set up and organise all events and has to be commended for the many hours which she put in on our behalf. We are all enjoying seeing the improvement in our juniors. Coaching is available to all members throughout the year, the cost being shared between the junior member and the Association. Coaching takes place at the Braid Hills Driving Range by Ian Young, Mark Berrie and Mark Patchett. Vouchers for additional coaching are awarded each month by the Association to one or two girls who show commitment and promise. Nine hole competitions take place (normally on the 3rd Sunday in the month) at the Melville Golf Course. These provide an opportunity for the girls to meet each other and, hopefully, arrange further games. The girls are accompanied by adults who teach them the etiquette and the rules of the game. Your help would be appreciated - any member of the Association who is free to come along and help on one of these Sundays should contact Dorothy Fraser (0131 449 4918 Three of our Junior Girls Amanda Edwards (Liberton), Lindsey Hunter (Dalmahoy) and Jane Turner (Glencorse) received national junior training from the SLGA throughout the winter The Junior Spring Meeting held at Liberton Golf Club on April 9th 2002 was won by Lindsey Hunter with a scratch score of 75 and Kim Kasperek with a net score of 64 (handicap 35).
