November 13 - Midlothian held a successful AGM and Prizegiving at Liberton Golf Club - Ellice Cackett and Tracy Laughland continue as Captain and Vice Captain of the Association for 2008. Margaret Rodgers was elected President in succession to Sue Caton, who demitted office after three years. Claire Hargan was congratulated on winning the County Championship for the fith year in succession and the Midlothian County Team were also congratulated on winning the Scottish County Finals for the second time in the last three years. October 21 - SLGA Mixed Foursomes at Deer Park - Fiona Hunter and Dougllgas Hunter won 3rd scratch and 1st handicap. Well done.

October 14 - Scottish Champion of Champions - Congratulations to Claire Hargan (Midlothian County Champion)on winning the SLGA Champion of Champions Competition at Western Gailes with a two under par 75. Alison Davidson (Stirling & Clackmannan Champion) was second on 77bih from Jane Turner (East of Scotland Girls Champion) who was third..

October 7 - East of Scotland Championship at the Glen Golf Course North Berwick -
Jane Turner (Mortonhall) pipped Claire MacDonald (Gullane) for the East of Scotland women’s amateur golf championship. Both finished with 72s and Jane, pictured right, won with the better inward half. Former Curtis Cup player and past British champion Alison Davidson (Stirling) was a very close-up third, only one stroke behind the first two. Leading Scores:

September 10 - The final of the Silver Hole and Hole will be played bweteen Sue Sutherland (Dalmahoy) and Ellice Cackett (Broomieknowe) The Bronze Finalists are Alison MacDonald (Dalmahoy) and Susan Dalrymple (King's Acre). Well done all four playes and Good Luck.

September 9 - The Midlothian Champion of Champions Final was played at the Royal Burgess Golf Course. Jennifer Bryans (Harburn) beat Karen Marshall (Baberton). Jennifer holed a long putt on the 17th green to win by 2 and 1. Karen just failed to hole a putt to take the match down the 18th hole. East of Scotland Championship Sunday October 7th, Glen Golf Club, North Berwick - The closing date for entries has been changed to September 19th, and there are still spaces. Players with handicaps up to about 14 usually get into the competition. You can have a round on the Glen for £10. [Entry forms with the Captain and with club representatives]

September 3rd - Thanks go to Deer Park for allowing MCLGA to play their Autumn Meeting there in perfect golfing weather. Midlothian members enjoyed the course, which was in great condition. Jane Turner (Mortonhall) won the Lady Ford Cup with the best Scratch score of 74. Susan Dalrymple (Kings Acre) won the McIntrye Trophy with the best overall net score of 68. (Results)

 

Midlothian are the Scottish County Champions Again


Sunday September 2nd - Midlothian won a close and exciting County Championship Final at Tulliallan Golf Course today on a count-back from Aberdeenshire.

On Day 1 Midlothian and Aberdeenshire drew 4.5 to 4.5 , while Dunbartonshire and Argyll beat Dumfriesshire 6.5 to 3.5.

On Day 2 Aberdeenshire beat Dumfriesshire 7.5 to 1.5 and Midlothian beat Dunbartonshire& Argyll by 7 to 2. At this point Aberdeenshire were in the lead by half a point!

On Day 3 Midlothian Beat Dumfriesshire by 8 to 1 and Aberdeenshire beat Dumbartonshire& Argyll by 6.5 to 2.5, making Midlothian the 2007 Scottish County Champions.

Congratulations to the Midlothian Team:- Fiona de Vries, Claire Hargan, Rachael Livingstone, Claire MacDonald, Karen Marshall, Belinda Murphy, Wendy Nicholson and Jane Turner. Congratulations also go to Captain, Ellice Cackett, Vice-Captain, Tracy Laughland and Scretary, Agnes Leslie, for all their work and support. Thanks to all the supporters from Midlothian and the Other Scottish Counties who came along over the three days of the competition.

Midlothian last the the Scottish County Championship at Ranfurly Castle in 2005, having had to wait 70 years since their previous win. During the 1920s Midlothian were the Scottish County Champions 8 times in 9 years and also won in 1932, 1933 and 1935.

Ladies Home Internationals at Dunbar Golf Club, September 12, 13th, 14th 2007
Dunbar Golf Club will be hosting the Ladies' Home International Matches from September 12th, to 14th inclusive. They are looking for trolley pullers morning and afternoons on each of the three days (1 or 2 rounds, or more). Carol Halliday is collecting names and planning the rota. August 26th - Scottish Womens' Foursomes Championship. Winners were the Mortonhall Team of Claire Hargan and Jane Turner (75, 27) 147.

August 26th Vicki Laing - Congratulations to Vicki Laing on her first win on the Futures Tour in the USA (Score (70, 68, 69) 207. Vicki is now 8th in the Futures Order or Merit. Well done.

British Ladies' Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Conwy Golf Club - Congratulations to Jane Turnner on her 20th place. This is her best finish in a ladies open competiton. Claire MacDonald and Rachae Livingstone also played and just missed qualifying for the last two rounds.

August 21st - County Golf Open Meeting at Haddington - Congratulations to Noreen Fenton in winning the second scratch prize with a score of 72. Louise MacGregor (Stirling and Clackmannan) had the best scratch score of 76.

Strathtyrum Trophy - Gilliam Simpson, Shona Simpson, Joan Marshall and Karen Marshall qualified for the matchplay. Karen reached the semi-final. Gillian lost a very close second round match.

June 17 - Congratulations to Fiona de Vries on finishing 6th in the European Senior Amateur Championships recently held at Vilamoura, Portugal.

June 12-17 - British Ladies Amateur Championaship at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds
Rachael Livingstone just missed qulaifying for the match-play stages. Sally Watson, qualified, but lost a very close first round match.
Krystle Caithness and Michele Thomson both reached the last 8 and lost to the eventual finalists in very good matches. Krystle has been selected for the Vagliano Trophy Team; with Jenna Wilson 2nd Reserve and Michele Thomson 4th reserve. This tournament will be held at St Andrews (Fairmont) on July 27 and 28, 2007.

June 5 - Many congratulations to Rachael Livingstone on her selection for the Scottish Team for the European Ladies' Team Championship to be played at Castelconturbia Golf Club, Italy, 10 - 14 July 2007

June 5 - Midlothian and Broomieknowe member, Patricia Capaldi, won the Bronze Division Silver Medal at the LGU Medal Grand Final at Crieff on June 3 with a score of 92 (20) 72 net.

June 4 - The MCLGA Squad versus SUGS at Gullane on June 1st, played on a lovely, calm summy evening, resulted in a win for SUGS by 3.5 matches to 1.5 (Detailed results). Thank you to SUGS for organising the match.

May 25 - A squad practice match was played against Duddingston Golf Club on a dry, cold evening. The result was a win for Midlothian by 2.5 to 1.5. Fiona de Vries birdied the last hole to win the match for her partnership. (Detailed results).
Thanks go to Duddingston Golf Club for the match and their hospitality. The Duddingston Vice-Captain, Gordon Paterson, reminded MCLGA about the Duddingston Ladies' Open and Duddingston Mixed Open.

MCLGA summer foursomes
The Midlothian Ladies Summer Foursomes were played on Monday 21st May at Ravelston Golf Club on a beautiful sunny day.
The course was in excellent condition. Thanks go to the green staff, caterers and to Ravelston members for allowing us to play the foursomes on their course.

Scottish Ladies (Close) Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club, May 15-19 2007 - 13 members of MCLGA supported and enjoyed playing in the 'Scottish'. Rachael Livingstone was the 4th best qualifier. Clarie Hargan, Claire MacDonald and Jane Turner also qualified in the top 32 for the match-play stages of the Championship. Claire Hargan reached the quarter finals. Detailed results are available on the SLGA web site.
Five other members of Midlothian qualified for the Clark Rose Bowl (next 16), with Wendy Nicholson going on to beat Pam Williamson in the final. Congratultations to Wendy.
Congratulations also to Claire Hargan who will represent Scotland in the Irish Ladies Open Amateur Championship at Clanderboye from June 30 to July 1

May 14 - Draw for Commonwealth Spoons at Ravelston on May 21st


Claire Hargan MCLGA Champion 2007 and Tracy Laughland, Runner Up

May 6th - Congratulations to Claire Hargan (Mortonhall) on winning the Midlothian County Championship for the fifth year in a row. Claire beat Tracy Laughland (Mortonhall) by 7 & 6 in the final. Claire started with a par four and followed this with a birdie at the second and pars at the third and fourth. Tracy won the fifth but Claire won the honour back immediately with a birdie at the sixth, and pars at the next three saw the reigning champion out in one-under 35 and six up. Tracy won the tenth after a rare putting lapse from Claire, but a par 3 at the eleventh and a bogey 5 at twelve were sufficient to give Claire the title once again. In the morning semifinals, Tracy beat the top qualifier, Belinda Murphy (also Mortonhall) by 3&2 and Claire beat Claire Macdonald (Gullane Ladies) by 2&1.
The B Championship final for handicaps 13 and above was a closely fought match between thirteen-year-old Kate Macintosh (Broomieknowe) and Denise Turnbull (Uphall). The match was all square after thirteen and Kate won the next three holes to take the title. In the morning semifinals, Kate beat another youngster, Gabrielle Macdonald from Prestonfield, on the eighteenth and Denise beat Helen Warnock (Harburn).
Thank you to Newbattle Golf Club for allowing the courtesy of their course for the Championship match-play. The course was in great condition. Thanks also for the excellent catering and fo the use of the clubhouse facilities.

May 4th - Some excellent golf was played in the first two rounds of the Midlothian Championship and B Championship match play at Newbattle Golf Course today. In the morning a very closely fought tie by two of the Ladies Senior Internationalists resulted in a win for Noreen Fenton over Fiona de Vries with the last putt on the 18th green. In the afternoon matches Belinda Murphy, Tracy Laughland, Claire Hargan and Claire MacDonald all won through to the semi-finals. (Championship results)
In the B Championship the semi-finals will be contested by Gabrielle Macdonald and Kate McIntosh (two junior members of MCLGA) and Helen Warnock and Denise Turnbull. (B Championship results)
Do come along and support the semi-finals (09:30 onwards) and finals (13:50 onwards) at Newbattle on Sunday May 6th.

May 2nd - Draw for Championship Match Play and Draw for B Championship Match Play

May 1st - The Miidlothian Championship Qualifying Competition was played over two rounds at Newbattle Golf Club today on a gloriously sunny day (SSS 72, CSS 71 and 72). The leading qualifier was Belinda Murphy (Mortonhall) 141 (70, 71) with Claire MacDonald (Gullane) second on 142 (71, 71). Claire Hargan was third on 145 (74, 71) (Qualifiers for Match Play on Friday May 4th)

The Newbattle Golf Club women’s course record, set by golf-writer Elspeth Burnside in 1977, was first equalled by Belinda Murphy with a 70 in her morning round and, in the afternoon, Rachael Livingstone (Musselburgh Old) lowered the record to 69 – three under par. Rachael had had a 77 in the morning and would have had an aggregate of 146. Unfortunately, she cannot take part in the match-play stages on Friday and Sunday because she has entered the Welsh women’s open stroke-play championship at Newport at the weekend. Rachael's second-round, in which she was six under par after 11 holes and shot seven birdies in all, will stand as a new course record.


 

April 25 - Draw for Championship Qualifying at Newbattle on May 1st

April 22 - Lanarkshire Ladies hosted a keenly contested annual practice match against Midlothian County Ladies' Squad at Lanarkshire Golf Club. The result was a win for Midlothian by 3 games to 1. The Junior Girls also won both their games. (Results)

April 16- MCLGA Spring Meeting at Prestonfield - SSS=72. CSS=75 - Congratulations to Rachael Livingstone who won the Cormack Salver for the best Scratch score at the Spring Meeting at Prestonfield with a scratch 73 (bih). The best net overall score came from Susan Dalrymple (King's Acre). (Results)

April 15 - Many congratulations to Midlothian's Junior Girls team of Jane Turner, Cara Easton, Gillian Simpson and Rachael Watton who retained the East Division Junior Inter-county Trophy (The Cuthbertson Cup) at Glenbervie Golf Club today.They played some excellent golf to retain the cup. In the morning they beat Stirling and Clackmannan. It was a very close match. Rachael made a remarkable come-back to get the half match we needed. In the afternoon we beat Fife. Again, all the matches were keenly contested. The girls supported each other all day. Jane was an excellent Captain. She won both her matches and was then off to support the others. Thanks to SCCGA for organising the event and to Glenbervie Golf Club for hosting the matches. Thanks also to all the parents and supporters. (detailed results)

April 7 - Cuthbertson Cup. The Cuthbertson Cup [The East Division Girls Inter-County Matches] will be held at Glenbervie Golf Club (near Larbert) on Sunday April 15th. The Midlothian Team is Cara Easton, Gillian Simpson, Jane Turner and Rachael Watton. Teams will tee off at 09:30 and 14:15. Midlothian are the holders of the Cuthbertson Cup and we do hope that you will be able to come along and give the team your support.

April 6 - Draw for Spring Meeting at Prestonfield on April 16

March 25 - The first squad practice match of the season between Borders and Midlothian was played at Minto Golf Club on a lovely sunny day and the matches were keenly contested. The Junior Girls also played a match. Results.

March 16 - Congratulations to Cara Easton for being selected for Scotland Team 2 and to Gillian Simpson for being selected 1st Reserve for the the SLGA Under 16 Championship at Craigielaw on April 5-6. MCLGA Social Evening at Dalmahoy on 1st March More than 100 members enjoyed the evening with the speakers from Well Connected Golf. Scott Dixon and Eileen Auld gave us lots of ideas to work on. East Division Junior Inter-County Match for the Cuthbertson Cup at Glenbervie Golf Club Sunday 15th April 2007
Morning draw (four singles matches) at 09:30 am when Stirling and Clackmanan play Midlothian and Fife play East Lothian.
The two winning teams play the final in the afternoon at 14:15, with the losers playing for 3rd and 4th place

The speakers are Scott Dixon( head golf professional at Dalmahoy) and Eileen Auld( Chartered Physiotherapist and Yoga teacher). They will be entertaining us with ideas for improving confidence and energy for your golf. There will be ideas for everyone. Please come along and support the evening. December 18 - Winter Foursomes. Rona Hunter and Jill lothian won their foursomes at Liberton with a hole in 1 at the 17th.
Rona holed her 3 wood tee shot.

Congratulations to those who have been selected to the County, SLGA and LGU squads. Work hard and enjoy your winter training.

This started in November with each squad having a 'Train your Golf Brain' session with Scott Dixon at Dalmahoy. They enjoyed his different approach to golf.

LGU Training squad for 2006/7
Sally Watson has been selected for the 15 strong LGU training squad. They are preparing for team events including the Vagliano Trophy which is at Fairmont St. Andrews on 27th and 28th July 2007.

October 28 - A Midlothian Junior Team and guests enjoyed a friendly but very competitive greensomes match against a team of County Squad members and their guests on Sunday at Broomieknowe Golf Course. Well done to the Juniors on winning by 3 games to 2. Thank you to Ellice, Midlothian's new Captain for organising the match and to Broomieknowe for being given courtesy of the course.

October 24 - Midlothian held its AGM at Liberton Golf Club. Retiring Captain, Maggie McPherson, was thanked for her enthusiasm and contributions to the work of the County and presented with her past captain's badge. Ellice Cackett was elected Captain and Tracy Laughland Vice Captain. The other Office Bearers continue in post. After the AGM the President, Sue Caton, presented the prizes to the winning Ladies and Girls.Claire Hargan, County Champion gave a vote of thanks in 'rhyme' to Captain Maggie and to President, Sue Caton.
